Baby! Baby!: Baby Shower for Twins!

Event planning for a baby shower.

Welcoming a baby into the world is an incredibly momentous occasion, and welcoming twins is twice as much fun! We recently had the pleasure of catering a baby shower at the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center. The venue’s vibrant floral décor was the perfect backdrop for this bright and festive event.

20150815_131156The walls of the Houston Arboretum’s indoor rooms are decorated with large paintings of carnations, dandelions, moths and butterflies in lush detail. It’s just the right setting for any birthday party, shower, or wedding. For this baby shower, our hostess Maneesha, sister-in-law of mommy to be, Sumitra, did an amazing job putting together all of the fun green and yellow décor.

She made lovely little take-away favors; turquoise mason jars filled with Hershey’s Kisses, topped with matching turquoise nail color. Attached to each bottle were personalized “Thank Yous” attached with curly green and yellow ribbon. These are simple and easy, customizable, guest gifts for nearly any occasion. Adorable white silk overlays with green polka dots were used to accent the tables, and the bright yellow napkins in the place settings added just the right pop of color.

Our florist assembled the gorgeous arrangements to tie in to the yellow and green theme. We wanted to go more sublte with colors for the flowers, so they’d add a bit texture to tables without overpowering the rest of the décor. The pastel yellow roses, stock, and touches of dusty miller and other filler greenery did just that. They looked great, smelled fantastic, and Sumitra and her guests were thrilled to be able to take them home at the end of the afternoon.

And now for the yummy part!

Our hostess went with a buffet-stlye service for her guests, and we put together a fab menu that Sumitra and her guests absolutely LOVED, and Chef Dean’s Homemade Pimento Cheese Tea Sandwiches were a big hit.

Catering spread

The beverage station consisted of Fresh Watermelon Lemonade garnished with sliced lemon and watermelon, and a Mimosa Bar! After all, what’s a shower without Mimosas, right? The guests were able to choose Orange, Watermelon, Pomegranate and/or Cranberry juice to go along with either of their three selections of perfectly chilled Prosecco. They were simply delighted with all of the refreshing drink options.

The cake is almost always one of the stand-out portions of any celebration, and this one was no exception. The 2-layer Red Velvet cake with Cream Cheese frosting was a show-stopper! This was due, in part, to its bold yellow and green fondant ribbons, and the absolutely ADORABLE handmade clothes line topper we crafted specially for the shower. When Maneesha asked if we could do a topper for the cake, I knew immediately that this would be the perfect idea. Sumitra and her husband Pradeep still hadn’t found the perfect names for their boys, so they’d dubbed them “Baby A” and “Baby B”.  To personalize the topper, I labelled each of the mini onsies respectively and paired them with coordinating yellow and green overalls. Hanging them with mini clothes pins was the finishing touch. The design was minimal, but memorable!

This was an absolutely wonderful afternoon. Many thanks to Maneesha and Sumitra for allowing us to be a part of this special day!
